The Grand Canyon Marathon is the second race of the year in our National Park series of Half Marathons.
Clothing on the Course
We will have a clothing bin to dump items in at mile 3. Anything else found along the course will be treated as trash.
5:00 AM – open starting line parking.
5:05 AM – first prize raffle (one every five minutes).
6:00 AM – last call for race day bib pickup.
6:30 AM – all cars should be parked.
6:45 AM – runners line up.
6:50 AM – mountain biker leaves.
6:55 AM – National Anthem.
7:00 AM – race starts!
9:45 AM – awards ceremony.
11:00 AM – finish cutoff. All runners must be off the course.
Because the course is mostly off the main road, it isn’t a very spectator friendly course. Spectators are welcome at the starting line and the finish line. The fire road the course will be on will not technically be closed, but please do not drive on it. Any cars on the course will cause a lot of dust in the air and will be a hazard to our runners.
Spectators are encouraged to be at the finish line to cheer on all our runners. Parking will be available at the start line and at the IMAX Theater parking lot. We should have enough parking to accommodate everyone, but if you are staying in Tusayan then please plan on walking to the finish line; it’s a short walk from any of the hotels in town.
When you register, we ask you to indicate when you plan to pick up your bib. If your plans change, don’t worry about it. We only ask to help us plan in terms of numbers. Your choices to pick up your packet are:
OPTION #1 – RACE EXPO
We encourage you to attend the race expo on Friday, October 13, 2017 in Tusayan and pick up your packet at the expo. We’ll have more details on pickup times and the expo location as we get closer to race weekend.
BRING YOUR OWN BAG
In our ongoing effort to eliminate waste during our races, our expos are bagless events. We encourage you to #BYOBag to hold your bib, race shirt, and any goodies you pick up from the race expo!
If you are unhappy with the fit of your race shirt, or were unable to order the size you wanted, we will have a shirt exchange available at the finish line on race day. Please note that sizes and quantity will be limited.
OPTION #2 – SHIP YOUR BIB
There is a cost of $20 if you want to have your bib and shirt mailed to you. We do this as a convenience for runners not wanting to drive to Tusayan early. This option is only available BEFORE the final price jump.
**Once your bib package is shipped, you are officially checked in to the race and no longer qualify for our refund, deferment, or transfer options.
OPTION #3 – RACE MORNING
We will have limited race morning packet pickup. The race starts very early, so if it can be avoided, please do not pick up your packet the morning of the race. Bib pickup on race morning will be right next to the starting line. Be sure to pick up your bib no later than 6:00am. The race starts at 7:00am.
We tried several times to get approval to run inside park boundaries, but were denied. This course is going to be great, but it does not offer any canyon views. It’s run right on the border of the national park, in the Kaibab National Forest immediately west of Tusayan, AZ. From the starting line, you can drive approximately 5 minutes to the edge of the canyon. This is our first trail run in our national park series! We suggest wearing trail shoes if you have them, but there’s no need to go out and get new shoes for the course. Several of our staff ran the course in road shoes without issues.
The course begins at the new parking lot at the north end of Tusayan, AZ right outside the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
